The study of music theory could provide a suitably interested
student a lifetime of learning and fascination. This is not really
what the One-2-Five music theory E-tutor is about.
This unique
downloadable e-tutor and online manual is for the student who would
rather be a musician than a
music theorist and that the
particularly tedious route to GRADE 5 THEORY is one of the less
attractive hurdles to climb, because most musicians prefer to
PLAY their instrument rather than write dots on a
stave. Have said that, many musicians come to regret their lack of
theoretical knowledge and music theory writing
skills when called upon to arrange or compose, especially when
finding themselves in a group or ensemble environment.
This is not to say that if you love music theory
you will hate our tutor, in fact we are certain you will probably
enjoy learning this way, but many people who thought they disliked
music theory have come to love it through using this modern
approach.
This is the magic target for performance musicians wishing to go
above grade 5 level in their
performance exams
because most exam boards make this a qualifying requirement for
grades 6, 7 and 8 (practical exams). Grade 5 theory
covers most of the rudiments of music, including most of the symbols and terms in common use
(English, French, Italian and German) basic harmony, intervals,
chords, cadences and music form. So if you achieve
this level then you are well equipped to go on and perform music
knowing you have good basic level of theoretical support.
The best way to learn music is by one-to-one music lessons with a good teacher and no computer courses or methods will ever replace this centuries old tradition which works for the vast majority of people. Private music teachers are probably our best customers because they know how modern children love to use their computers for homework and they can use the One-2-Five tutor in many ways to assign interesting challenges to their pupils without straying from their particular grade, and they love the quizzes, flashcards and aural challenges. If you are learning without the aid of formal music lessons or school, then the One-2-Five E-tutor will become a valuable acquisition.
The One-2-Five will help prepare you for all
theory grade examinations in the U.K. (and many other countries) up
to Grade 5. It is designed to cover the minimum of requirements and
to be reasonably comprehensible to children and adults who have at
least started learning a musical instrument. After downloading the
E-Tutor you can evaluate the program and then decide if you wish to
purchase a license. There is much more to the program than theory
grades 1-5 but if you are taking external examinations with one of
the UK examination boards we recommend use of our online manual
(registration free with the e-tutor) as a supplementary aid
(alongside the board's music theory workbook) for
those of you who enjoy using computer style learning. However, there
is no substitute for the use of pen and paper for preparation for an
exam that exclusively requires this medium and this endeavour is not
attempting to replace this. but we strongly believe that the
downloadable E-tutor will bring
a new and refreshing addition to the often tedious business of
preparing for and taking music theory exams, and of course, this
type of learning does have the advantage of live 'sound' and fast
links to the entire program. Because of this we have included
aural (ear) tests
throughout the program.
Links are given to sites where more specialized information is
available. If you are a complete beginner there is a Preparatory
level prior to Grade 1.
